Jon Pepper, in the August, 1999 issue of Southland Blues Magazine,
had this to say about Max's King Of The Hill CD (Courtyard 1111):
"Max Bangwell has long been a fixture on the Los Angeles blues
scene with his great drumming and wonderfully inventive songs.
Bangwell has a storied background, having played with such
varied talent as Robert Lockwood, Jr. and Weird Al Yankovic.

This album not only showcases Bangwell, his drums and his voice, | but also his great band. This band consists of Job Striles on guitar, who recently produced his own great solo album, Rick Reed on bass, Primordial Slim on harmonica, one of the most underrated harp players around, and Rob Rio on piano. Also joining Bangwell on this album are friends like Jimmy Rip, Jimi Bott, and the Boyle Heights Horns, which include Eddie Senegal and Hollis Gilmore, two of our great local horn players.
With songs like 'Chile Bean Stew' and 'The Wolf That Got Away,' |
